St Cuthberts Badminton Club

St Cuthbert’s Badminton Club was formed on 11th October 1945 when the Rector called a meeting to see if something could be formulated to accommodate those too old for the junior organisations belonging to the church and it was resolved that a badminton club should be formed on Monday nights from 7:00pm till 10:00pm

We have clubnights weekly on a Monday from 7:00pm @ St. Cuthbert’s Parochial Church Hall, Off Botanic Road, Southport.

Just a reminder that to give all players a fair chance to represent the Southport town teams, this season we will be holding trials on Sunday 8th September at Burscough Sports Centre from 12.30-4pm. Having the trials will allow all players in the league to have a fair chance of playing for the town teams.

Currently, there are 4 Southport town teams across all divisions in the league. Please see the flyer below which has more information about the trials and the town teams.

Additionally, due to the unavailability of a venue we have had to move the date of the V and JB tournaments to 1st and 2nd February 2020 which is a week ahead of the date advertised in the handbook. ... See MoreSee Less

League members, please support our charity event!

Dave Abbott Tournament - Sunday 8th September 9am-3pm. Entries OPEN with just 2 men and 4 ladies spaces remaining.

The Dave Abbott memorial tournament will take place for the third time on Sunday 8th September commencing from 9am and running until approximately 3pm.
All are welcome to enter with all money raised going to Queenscourt Hospice.
Entries on a first come first served basis - we only have room for total 16 men / 16 ladies and have only a few spaces remaining.

Format:
The tournament is a handicapped, knock-out, 'team' event with each team consisting of 2 men and 2 ladies.
Players may enter as individuals to be paired with a mixed partner, or alternatively may enter as a mixed pair (subject to both male / ladies space available).The only restriction that exists is 2 players from the 3rd division or above from the 18-19 season can't enter together as a mixed pair (exceptions to this will only be made if there is great difficulty filling a remaining space, at the discretion of the handicappers). Mixed pairs are then drawn at random to form teams of 4 players.
All players will play a minimum of 'best of 3' level doubles and mixed doubles in the first round, which will be followed on the day by the semi-finals and final.
To Enter:
In order to enter please respond to this post or send a message to Andrew Pretty on Facebook, providing details of your partner if entering as a mixed pair.
The cost to enter is £10, most of which goes to the charity after covering hall hire costs - the tournament will be held at Banks Leisure Centre and the bar will also be open from approximately midday and light refreshments available for spectators and (knocked out!) players in the afternoon.
This is an event for spectators too - we will be holding a raffle with some great prizes available and small 'carnival' games will be available for a prize which will be open to everyone including children. Please let us know if you plan to bring children to spectate and we can plan the games more effectively.
T-Shirts:
As previously, we will be selling t-shirts in advance for the event, with huge thanks to the Nathan & Alan at Zentex Limited! Nathan has created a great fresh design for this year.
T-Shirts will be £15 each (£17 polo also available). If you would like to order your t-shirt, please email/message including your size.

This event is always really well supported and was great fun last time and lots of money was raised for a great cause - please support us and get involved!
